Although women are increasingly employed in scientific research, health care, and academia, they are promoted more slowly, and are more likely to leave these careers. Recently, the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements have exposed the widespread impact of sexual harassment on victim's mental health and career advancement. Ignoring sexual harassment including unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature also harms institutions by failing to protect employees and cultivate the best talent. This symposium will examine the effect of sexual harassment on women and men across the science, academic and healthcare professions, fields in which women often predominate but have failed to reach leadership parity.
